| Our curriculum reflects St. Paul's School philosophy: to provide for the development of each child to his or her fullest potential as an integrated individual: spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. Our staff recognizes the uniqueness of each student and utilizes differentiated instructional methods to challenge each child and promote academic success for all. Our religious education program is based upon traditional values of concern and respect for others. Age appropriate activities emphasize the principles of the Catholic faith and provide children with the experience of a Christian community. Students plan and participate in liturgies and prayer services. They are also involved in service projects throughout the year. At each grade level, students receive instruction in religion, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our curriculum is based on Archdiocesan and State frameworks and standards. In addition, all students receive instruction in music, technology, physical education, and Spanish. Kindergarten Kindergarten students discover the basic concepts in reading, language arts, mathematics and science through hands-on experiences. Learning centers using manipulative materials help to reinforce instruction in all subjects. A strong phonics skills program is at the core of the reading program. Hands-on science experiences are provided once a week. Our Kindergarten is a full day program. Each afternoon students enjoy unstructured play time so that they may develop social skills. First, Second and Third Grades Primary grade students progress in reading, language arts, and mathematics. Learning centers for reading, writing and spelling keep younger students engaged and excited about learning to read and write. Math facts come to life through the use of manipulatives that children can see and touch. Hands-on science explorations encourage students' natural curiosity. Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grades Students begin to develop reasoning, logical thinking, writing, and research skills to help them become more independent learners. Project-based learning and independent reading become a part of a student's educational experience. These stimulate creativity and improve the organizational skills students will need throughout their educational career. Junior High Students in the junior high experience a more departmentalized program in order to better prepare them for the rigors of high school. A dedicated science teacher encourages learning through participation in labs. Pre-Algebra and Algebra are taught in the 7th and 8th grades. Public speaking experiences are a part of the language arts curriculum. There are opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through student government and service to the community. |
