Melinda Dunnihoo • Junior High ScienceMs. Dunnihoo is in her first year as the junior high science teacher. She enjoys introducing students to the exciting world of science and likes to challenge students to think and create. She believes that hands-on learning is important to understand how our universe works. Projects, such as the bridge building, and labs are a major part of science class.
Ms. Dunnihoo holds a Bachelors of Science in Distributed Studies from Iowa State University, with emphases in zoology and life sciences, speech disorders, and psychology. She also holds a masters of arts degree from the University of Iowa in Audiology. Ms. Dunnihoo has taught in several schools in Northern and Southern California. She completed the Exploratorium Teacher Institute in 2011, and continues to participate in Exploratorium Teacher education workshops. Ms. Dunnihoo thinks continuing education is important for science teachers to keep up with the rapid changes in scientific information and also serves as Mathletics coordinator for St Paul’s. Outside of school, Ms. Dunnihoo loves to garden, cook, knit, and read, especially biographies and books on genetics and geology. Volcanoes and earthquakes have also been a life long interest for her. Ms. Dunnihoo is impressed with the depth of learning at St. Paul’s school, the quality of the faculty, and the involvement of the families in the school community. |
