Sandcastle Classic Competition

The St. Paul’s Sandy Celtics participated for the very first time in the 42nd annual LEAP Sandcastle Classic competition held at Ocean Beach on October 26, 2024. The theme was “Out of This World”. We were so excited to be part of this iconic event and provide our community another fantastic enrichment activity.  The students who participated in the enrichment program were the creative force of the sandcastle design, as they worked with experts in architecture, engineering and construction.  The competition itself was an experience that was fun for all the families who came out, and provided a playful way to create art and have a hands-on learning experience as a community.   Our out of this world sandcastle won the “Most Geographically Accurate Globes” award for our planet earth structure!  We look forward to our continued participation in this wonderful event next year.

About LEAP Sandcastle Classic

LEAP Sandcastle Classic is a non-profit organization that provides arts education services for 9200 students in the Bay Area every year. The LEAP Sandcastle Classic is the biggest fundraiser of the year to help with the costs of the art education program. Through the sandcastle competition, kids have the chance to play and create art through sand.  The students who participate are able to use their creativity in design, expression through the planning process, and work directly with professionals in architecture, engineering and construction. Sandcastle classid provides a STEAM experience with aspects of science (learning the physics of working with sand and water as a building material), technology (working with the design sketch of the sandcastle), engineering (reworking the design considering the structural integrity and materials available), arts (using creativity to create a design, sketches, models to the sculpting of the sandcastle) and math (learning measurements, creating a grid of the design, understanding spatial relationships/measurements in the design).  LEAP Sandcastle Classic is “Northern California’s largest sandcastle competition and iconic San Francisco event”.  Visit the LEAP Sandcastle Classic website for more information.
